Abstract
Tree stems and leaves are found to become one of major problems for the Bangkok MetropolitanAdministration to collect in Bangkok area. Due to the fact that there is no technological equipment inThailand to grind them into pieces after cutting the tree stems and leaves out of a tree. Therefore, it isnormally found that such tree stems and leaves are laid down everywhere on the footpaths around Bangkokarea. This may cause injury for people walking along the footpaths or cars driven on the roads. At thepresent time, the equipment that can be used for grinding the tree stems and leaves to become a fertilizerdoes not exist in Thailand. This project, therefore, proposes and develops a tree stem small grinding car thatcan be moved around to cut the tree stems and leaves into small pieces. The small grinding car could save aplenty of spaces due to the fact that the cutting tree stems in a traditional way are cut and laid down on atruck, resulting in more space consumption. To design this car, this research considers anthropometricmeasurement and safety issue for car designing. Considering the data derived from a measurement ofhuman anthropometry, this research study is conducted to use the data for designing the seatheight/length/width, grinding machine height from the ground, or wheel height, etc. for the tree stem smallgrinding car. This research also considers male/female’s anthropometry data that is at the 50th percentilerepresenting the design for average, and at the 95th percentile representing the design for extreme. Thepurpose is to provide the information of how to design the optimum size of the small grinding car that canbe used for both genders. This car can grind the tree stems and leaves by using the grinder with a motor of200 horsepower. A can that is used for holding grinded tree stems or leaves has capability of 0.0961 cubicfeet. Its structure dimension is 1000 × 2000 × 1400 (W×L×H) millimeters. The main objectives of thisresearch are: (1) to develop the small grinding car used for grinding tree stems for the BangkokMetropolitan Administration, (2) to conduct a comparative study of space reduction between the traditionaltruck used for carrying the tree stems and the developed small grinding car, and (3) to develop the smallgrinding car with a low cost production.
