Ergonomics concept has been recently used in Thailand for overcoming the problems thatare related to the improper design of equipment and instrument. By designing either equipment orinstrument, it is very crucial to consider a concept of “Anthropometry.” Anthropometry data canbe used as a reference for biomechanics’ study which may includes center of mass, center ofgravity, body links, width, length, body size for movement, weight, height, circumferences, etc.By considering the data being derived from a measurement of human anthropometry, thisresearch study was conducted to use such data in redesigning a current grinding machine used inthe Thai dairy markets. This grinding machine is currently used for the Thai butchers whom thepork meat is a main selling product. Also, the research presented here considers male andfemale’s anthropometry data that is at the 50th and 5th percentile representing the design foraverage and design for extremes, respectively. The purpose is to provide the information of howto design the optimum size of the grinding machine that can be used for both genders. The mainobjectives of this research are: 1) to improve comfort and efficiency of using the grindingmachine, as well as 2) to design a guard of the machine for the Thai Butchers to improve safetyand increase efficiency/effectiveness of grinding.
