Abstract
This research presented here investigates the area ofergonomics and anthropometric measurement thatcan be used for designing a small grinding car.Currently, tree stems and leaves are seen everycorners of the streets. It is due to the fact that thereis no technological equipment in Thailand to grindthem into pieces after cutting the tree stems andleaves out of a tree. Therefore, it is normally foundthat such tree stems and leaves are laid downeverywhere on the footpaths around Bangkok area. This may cause injury for people walking along thefootpaths or cars driven on the roads. At the presenttime, the equipment that can be used for grindingthe tree stems and leaves to become a fertilizer doesnot exist in Thailand. This project, therefore, proposes and develops a tree stem small grindingcar that can be moved around to cut the tree stemsand leaves into small pieces. The small grinding carcould save a plenty of spaces due to the fact that thecutting tree stems in a traditional way are cut andlaid down on a truck, resulting in more spaceconsumption. To design this car, this researchconsiders anthropometric measurement and safetyissue for car designing. Considering the dataderived from a measurement of humananthropometry, this research study is conducted touse the data for designing the seatheight/length/width, grinding machine height fromthe ground, or wheel height, etc. for the tree stemsmall grinding car. This research also considersmale/female’s anthropometry data that is at the 50thpercentile representing the design for average, andat the 95th percentile representing the design forextreme. The purpose is to provide the informationof how to design the optimum size of the smallgrinding car that can be used for both genders. Thiscar can grind the tree stems and leaves by using thegrinder with a motor of 200 horsepower. A can thatis used for holding grinded tree stems or leaves hascapability of 0.0961 cubic feet. Its structuredimension is 1000 × 2000 × 1400 (W×L×H)millimeters. The main objectives of this researchare: (1) to apply a concept of ergonomic and anthropometry in designing a small grinding car,and (2) to develop the small grinding car used forgrinding tree stems and leaves.
