Abstract
This paper illustrates the use of communication techniques in press conferences between business organization representatives and journalists, in the context of media relations, which is significant for corporate communication. The journalists used a leading question calling for a yes or no response. The directness of this type of question led the organization representatives to answer evasively by referring to a third party as their best estimation of the expected response. These answers influenced the journalists to adopt a less aggressive line of questioning, such as rhetorial questions with only positive responses. Some journalists used a positive question. In response to such a question, an organization representative used lexical choice and rephrasing.
