This paper investigates the current usage of Operations Research (OR) techniques in logistics-related activities for the Taiwanese logistics industry. Based on an industry survey of 37 logistics firms out of a sample of 75, our results show that 59.46% of the respondents acquired OR techniques from their past employment training they had received before they joined their current company. Also, 64.86% agree that OR techniques can solve problems effectively. The most familiar OR technique is statistical analysis. Among the logistics-related activities, logistics firms report that OR techniques are applied most often onto solving the transportation problem while the least applied area is in supplier selection. The result also shows the reason why that OR is not widely adopted is the lack of capable OR professionals and their unfamiliarity of OR techniques. Over half of the firms surveyed point out in the questionnaires that they plan to increase the adoption of OR techniques, and furthermore, suggest that logistics students should enhance OR techniques.
