Abstract
This paper surveys issues from the relevant economic literature dealing with therelationship between population growth and economic development. As this papermakes clear, there does not exist a clear consensus regarding the relation betweenthese two variables: both empirical and theoretical studies suggest either a positive ora negative correlation. We conclude that embracing such a balanced perspective willcertainly place the population debate on a firmer and more productive direction forfuture research.
