Abstract
In Thailand, the definition of a family business is not clearly identified. Generally, a familycompany is a business run by family members, who are also on the board of directors withadministrative power to vote and control the company. This study sets 4 definitions of afamily business and classifies 449 firms listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).According to these definitions, we find that 235 firms, or 52.34% of the overall firms listedon SET are family businesses, and the market capitalization of these firms is 1,079,193,424,991Baht, which is 23.08% of the whole market capitalization.
