Abstract
The concept of qualitative/case study research provides an extensive discussion on the complexity of defining what quantitative and qualitative research is and is not. Quantitative research focuses on research design, measurement and sampling because the basic approach of quantitative research is deductive. A deductive approach emphasizes the planning of data collection and analysis to gain through the research questions and the hypotheses in theory framework. Qualitative research emphasizes richness of data, texture and feeling from the data to refine and generate new knowledge by what is called an inductive approach. Eriksson and Kovalainen (2008: 7) presented nine qualitative research approaches applied to business research (1) Case study research, (2) Ethnographic research, (3) Grounded theory research, (4) Focus group research, (5) Action research, (6) Narrative research, (7) Discursive research, (8) Critical research and (9) Feminist research. Qualitative/case study research has been used in business research for a long time. Companies use case study research to study the success or failure of management and the organization. Therefore, case study research can be used to f ind the facts about companies around the world. The important factor that makes case study research popular is learning about the complicated issues of business, the operations and regulations that result in the success or failure of an organization. There are two types of case study research (1) Single case study and (2) Multiple-case studies. Analytic techniques include (1) Pattern matching, (2) Explanation building, (3) Time-series analysis, (4) Logic models and (5) Cross-case synthesis. In a case study research report, the researcher should introduce the truth of the case study and then lead to the theoretical issues in the research questions. The main points of report writing are research questions and logical answers intertwined within discussion, proof and truth. The final important issue of case study research is to evaluate case study research. Evaluation of case study research is based on the three concepts of reliability, validity and framework.
