Abstract
A dynamic and innovative SCM system has to integrateongoing innovations into its processes and welcomefuture ones. Focus of this study is on documentation andclassifications of innovations -that have been accumulatedin a company’s SCM over time- and generally have anexperimental origin. First, authors have tried to extractSCM Innovations applied by Petrochemical IndustriesDevelopment Management Company (PIDMCo) in lastfive years. PIDMCo is a national Iranian company whichacts as a project based organization and managesprocurement and operation of a large portfolio ofpetrochemical plant projects.40 inventive principles (classes) of TRIZ -one of the lesswidely used innovation tools- have been the basis of thestudy for documentation and classification of innovationsin procurement and supply chain management of thecompany. Classification (assigning innovations intoclasses and development of analogies) has beenperformed by expert judgment based on analysis for reapplicability.Resulting framework then has been mappedagainst elements of company’s procurement and SCMsystem to check applicability and validity of innovativepatterns. Results show a good potential for speeding upinnovation in SCM with use of TRIZ systematicapproach. In the last section some difficulties of TRIZapplication in SCM are discussed.
