Abstract
The primary purpose of this research is to study the role of the Thai media (such asnewspaper, television news, internet, government media, and the community radio),and its effect on the national crisis. The research is designed as a qualitative andquantitative research. The researcher studied the mainstream media such as Thai PBS,and Channel 3, 5, &7, respectively. Furthermore, the newspapers such as Thairath,Matichon, Thaipost, Bangkokpost and Nation were investigated for this research. Inaddition, the new media such as political blogs and community radios were studied. The results indicate that Thai media has the role of reporting daily news but no rolein building national unity. The newspaper echoes the social problem but does notindicate a way out. The television news was the same. Some community radiosencouraged people to be political activists, which also lead to their being streetprotesters. Finally, the media overall affected Thai society, economics, culture andindividuals. The researchers give some suggestions to the government as follows:(a) the government should use media to build national unity and (b) the governmentshould authorize and support the media organizations. The researchers suggest Thaimedia itself should build and preserve media ethics, such as reporting positive andaccurate news.
